The novel coronavirus 2019 may have prevented us from going outside to help others physically but it can never stop us from learning more and spreading awareness about global issues such as human trafficking. The serwis club organized an online webinar in which a speaker from the non-profit organization, A21, that aims to abolish slavery and human trafficing spoke about the organization’s mission and their method of reducing human trafficking in Thailand. This was a very informative and inspiring session for me since I have always been interested in ways to combat global issues like these, and the speaker provided us, the serwis club, with many ways in which we can spread awareness to combat this global issue. I now have several ideas on how to raise awareness in my local community, including making story books for children to learn about these global issues as well as organizing fundraisers to support the work of this organization. After listening to the speaker talk about how they rescued several children living on the streets of bangkok, I realized success in abolosihing human trafficking could not be measured by numebrs, since this organization continues to empower and restore the survivors even after they were rescued. This made me think more about the effect of trauma and slavery on the brain and development of young children, which lead to do do my tok passion project about the effect of poverty on children.
