Recognise and consider the ethics of choices and actions
On december 12, 2019 the Serwis club visited Mercy Center which is an orphanage and a community center for the people living with AIDS/HIV in the slums of the khlong toey area. Over the past couple of months the Serwis club has held many fundraisers and opportunities for donations of toys and household items to donate to the Mercy Center. The main goal of this trip was to spread christmas cheer to the children in this community center and to also teach them a little english through colouring activities. During this trip I played various games with the children, such as ring-around-the-rosie, and also taught some of the younger children easy english words that relate to the theme of christmas, such as ‘gift’ and ‘joy.’ I felt really happy to be able to bring a smile to the children’s face by giving them attention and praising their coloring work. I also tried to compliment every child that I met to strengthen their self confidence and bring more positivity into their lives, since I realize that living in an orphanage with many other children can be really tough on the mental health of the child. I hope to be able to meet the children again to bring more positivity into their lives once the pandemic is over and it is safe for the children to interact with others again.
